RCB, Giants Look to Build on Strong WPL 2026 Starts

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have enjoyed a dream opening to their WPL 2026 campaign. Impressively, their two victories have come in completely contrasting styles—first a thrilling last-ball win against Mumbai Indians, followed by a dominant performance over UP Warriorz. Such versatility so early in the season gives RCB strong momentum as they look to maintain their unbeaten run.

Questions about team balance and combinations have been answered, at least for now, by RCB’s disciplined bowling unit. New signing Lauren Bell has been exceptional, conceding just 3.75 runs per over—the only bowler in the league operating under four an over—and maintaining an outstanding dot-ball percentage of 70.8%. Nadine de Klerk has also been influential, picking up six wickets and providing control in the middle overs.

RCB’s opening pair has been another bright spot. Grace Harris and Smriti Mandhana have consistently set the tone, while de Klerk delivered one of the most memorable death-overs innings in WPL history when the team needed it most. Although the middle order is yet to fire collectively, RCB already have plenty of positives to build upon.

Gujarat Giants, meanwhile, have mirrored RCB with two wins from two to start their season. Their overseas group—Sophie Devine, Ash Gardner, and Georgia Wareham—made an immediate impact, while Anushka Sharma impressed in her opening appearance. Bharti Fulmali has played the finisher’s role superbly in back-to-back matches, and Kanika Ahuja will be eager to perform against her former franchise.

However, Gujarat’s bowling remains a concern. Their attack has leaked runs consistently and it cost them in their defeat to Mumbai Indians earlier this week. Renuka Singh Thakur has the most economical figures among their bowlers, but even she sits at a high 8.10. The Giants will need a tighter display if they want to challenge RCB’s powerful lineup.

As the WPL approaches the final stretch of its Navi Mumbai leg, fans can look forward to a high-intensity contest.

Debutant Coles Shines as Sunrisers Eastern Cape Seal Playoff Spot

James Coles produced a brilliant all-round performance on debut to help Sunrisers Eastern Cape secure a dominant bonus-point win over Joburg Super Kings, becoming the first team to reach the SA20 2026 playoffs. After being sent in to bat, SEC posted a solid 178/5 on a surface that offered grip and slow turn. Quinton de Kock and Jonny Bairstow gave the innings an early push, and de Kock continued the charge with a fluent 54 off 37 balls — his third fifty of the season. With SEC cruising at 88/1 after 10 overs, Donovan Ferreira dragged JSK back into the contest by striking twice in the same over, removing Jordan Hermann and de Kock. That brought debutant Coles to the crease. He was initially watchful alongside Tristan Stubbs, as SEC crawled to 129/4 at the end of 16 overs. But after the strategic timeout, Coles shifted momentum dramatically, attacking Richard Gleeson and Nandre Burger with crisp boundaries. His 29-ball half-century powered SEC to a competitive finish on a tricky surfac...

USA players of Pakistani origin await visa approval ahead of T20 World Cup

Four USA cricketers of Pakistani origin—Ali Khan, Shayan Jahangir, Mohammad Mohsin, and Ehsan Adil—are still waiting for visa clearance to travel to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Instead, their applications remain under assessment according to standard procedures. ICC sources confirmed that all necessary documents were submitted correctly ahead of the scheduled interviews. An official explained: “The players completed their appointments this morning at the Indian Embassy in Sri Lanka and submitted all required paperwork. During the appointment, they were informed t...

Rubin Hermann and Dan Lawrence powered Paarl Royals to a dramatic last-ball

Rubin Hermann and Dan Lawrence powered Paarl Royals to a dramatic last-ball, six-wicket victory over Durban’s Super Giants, moving the Royals up to second place in the standings and putting DSG’s playoff hopes under heavy pressure. Chasing 187 on a pitch that has challenged batters all season, Hermann and Lawrence turned the game with a dominant 106-run partnership off just 61 balls for the third wicket. Their stand shifted momentum sharply and helped the Royals record the highest successful chase at the venue . Earlier, after David Miller chose to bowl, DSG gained a rapid start through Sunil Narine, who smashed 22 off 11 before Mujeeb Ur Rahman removed him. Captain Aiden Markram stabilized the innings with a composed 66 off 46, adding 76 for the third wicket with David Bedingham. Markram’s dismissal late in the innings did little to slow DSG’s progress, as Heinrich Klaasen (29 off 18) and Liam Livingstone (32 off 10) delivered a powerful finish, carrying the total to 186/5 — ...
